A small group of people find themselves caught up in First Contact.
You are living a normal life in [town/city], working as a [profession] at [institution]. Day to day life on March 1st, 2034 is much like it was back in 2017. Individually, people still go to work every day, raise families, and so on. There have been some big geopolitical and ecological changes, for better and for worse, of course.
And then came The Arrival: Tetras began to appear out of thin air at local noon, starting just off the coast of Australia. Twenty three hours later New Zealanders were among the last people to welcome Earth's alien... visitors? Invaders?
How To Create a Character
This wiki contains everything you need to know and do to Create a Character in the Discovered Universe (DU), including relevant Fate Accelerated Edition (FAE) rules and background information about the Discovered Universe (DU). As the game is played, this wiki will add events, characters, and other elements of the game universe.
You won't find the full FAE rules here - just the remixed ones you need to be able to build a good character.
Many individual rules are consolidated into larger pages. To see where a rule is referenced, go to that page and choose the "what links here" option from the menu.
Many Game Mechanics are expressed as World Aspects associated with one or more World Notes. Together these provide actionable aspects of the world in 2034, set in a narrative context for the game. Some World Aspects were created by the GR to create the setting for the game. Many are the result of discussions while creating a character.
The DU is constructed on two online platforms:
- Slack for text discussions and file sharing;
- Discord for video conferencing during game sessions.
- MediaWiki for developing and recording the ongoing narrative (that's this site).
To become a player/creator you'll need to create an account on this site, make a first pass at creating a character, and have the Sysop make you a Slack account. Game play may be live sessions using video-conferencing, or textual interactions over Slack.
Timelines and Narrative Continuity
A large part of the role of a GR is to maintain continuity within the universe. This narrative history is also documented through pages on this site - especially Events, Characters and World Aspects. During and after play, Events are added to the wiki, Character pages are updated, and world aspects are adjusted.
Characters and Players
The Category:Characters and Category:Players pages contain dynamically generated lists of participants in the game. (Entities are a type of character so they don't have a category page.) Each type of character has an additional categorization: PC, NPC, PE, or NPE.
Most characters are directed by a single player until the character dies or retires from the narrative. Some characters may be directed by more than one player, or could be temporarily taken over by a GameRunner.
The adventures created by the Players and Gamerunners are freely available to anyone who wants to be an Author.
