Cyborg Collective

Aliases: #REDIRECT [[Cyborg Collective]]

[[Category:Alias]]

[[CC]] :: [[Cyborg Collective]]

Aspects
High Concept: Ensure that something that remembers being human remains when the world ends.
Trouble: Meat is a terrible hardware platform.
Aspects:
  • Recursive Protectorate: We are the barrier between humanity and the forces striving to end it - including humanity.
  • Bigger Fish: It is not paranoia or fear when you have evidence of what they are doing.
  • Tendrils: We have agents and influencers everywhere, and all of them owe us their lives.
  • Influence and Control: Changing minds is our core competency.
  • Chain of Command: Who owns the team, along with names and titles of key leaders on the team, the size of the team, and the team budget.
Fate Points
Refresh: 3 Current Total 3
Approaches
Careful Clever Flashy Forceful Quick Sneaky
+5 +1 0 0 0 +5
Sophant Characteristics
  • Teams are groups of sophants who work together to achieve a goal. Most of these teams are described using the same form as is used for Characters, but with a lot less detail and personality.
Stunts
  • Bench Strength: Once per session the team can remove a consequence, disadvantage, or other situational aspect by bringing in a reserve team member with just the right skills, knowledge, and experience.
  • Crunch Time: +2 to [approach] overcome an obstacle interferes with our core purpose.
  • You can do what?: Once per session a team member demonstrates unexpected expertise in some domain the team is not good at overall. For one roll one approach can be raised to 3 but not higher.
  • Many Hands Bonus: +1 is applied to all fate rolls before any other bonuses, to a maximum of 4, so the team can never roll -4. Apply all other bonuses after the many hands bonus is applied (approach, stunt, advantages, etc).
Magic: Spells and Powers
Augmentation: Genetic and Cybernetic
Damage Resistance and Healing

Appearance

To the public, people who indentify as members of the CC are usually advocates for 'better than meat' augmentations, especially in medical contexts. The organization itself is a volunteer-driven not-for-profit with three goals:

  • Lobby governments for better body-autonomy regulations and laws.
  • Coordinate and fund research into non-biological physical and mental augmentation.
  • Support people in need of repair.

The CC are considered somewhat radical but not hostile as Transhumanist sects go. Many members are researchers working on cybernetics and patients who have had medical conditions corrected by cybernetics. A third group - often at odds with the others - contains people who want to replace functional organs and limbs with cybernetic versions. These people almost always have to conceal the replacement parts, as this is illegal almost everywhere.

Backstory

The Cyborg Collective believe that meat is a terrible hardware platform and they want off of it. While they are not actively hostile to baseline or GMO humans, they feel that these are inherently inferior branches of the species. This sect is particularly popular in Japan, where concepts like "The Ghost In The Machine" originated. NCANZ also has a strong presence in this transhumanist sect, given their strict laws about repairing but not augmenting a person.

The private agenda of the sect is a closely guarded secret known only to the most senior leaders. The extensive network of influencers and agents in organizations across Earth and the Moon have little knowledge of each other, since they are usually organized into isolated cells. Most of the favours these agents do are legal, at least on the surface, such as a CFO choosing to fund a CC-beneficial program instead of drug trial.

Most augmentation that CC have a hand in are indistinguishable from normal human organs unless scanned (medical, security). The better augments are difficult for even those to detect.

CC have been strong public advocates of neural lace technologies as a bridge to nonbiological human intelligence. They were also influential in the creation and ongiong funding of the Ouroboros Project.
